HISTORY OF ISTAC - IIUM

TIMELINE OF ISTAC ESTABLISHMENT HISTORY BY IIUM

29 September,
1987

Majlis Meeting No. 14 approved the establishment of ISTAC with the aim to restore the primacy of Islam in all fields of knowledge as a continuation of the tradition of Islam in the pursuit of knowledge enshrined in the IIUM Constituition.

ISTAC was managed as an autonomous entity based on Rules and Regulations of ISTAC 1989.​

16 August,
2002

Majlis Meeting No. 60 revoked the autonomous status of ISTAC and accordingly, ISTAC became one of the kulliyyah in IIUM.​

As one of the kulliyyahs in IIUM, ISTAC only offers academic programmes at the postgraduate level, with 168 students, 11 academic staff and 15 administrative staff.​

25 February, 2015

Majlis Meeting No. 106 approved the transfer of ISTAC programmes to KIRKHS effective from Semester 1, 2015/2016. The Majlis also mandated the University Management Committee to make the necessary arrangements, including transfer of staff, documents and artifacts; preparation of rooms and classes; and movement of relevant office equipment and furniture.

26 October,
2017

On 26th October, 2017 International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation was rebranded to International Institute of Islamic Civilisation and Malay World.

17 May,
2019

On 17th May 2019, BOG Meeting no. 53 has renamed the International Institute of Islamic Civilisation and Malay World to International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation. (ISTAC)​
