Overview
The Executive Programme in Quranic Language Studies (EPQLS) is a structured and progressive programme offered by the Arabic (Quranic Language) Division of the Institute for Language Advancement (IfLA), IIUM. Designed for the public community, EPQLS provides systematic exposure to Quranic Arabic, beginning from foundational concepts and advancing towards higher levels of linguistic understanding.
The programme aims to enable learners to comprehend acts of worship (ibadah) through direct engagement with the language of the Qurʾan, fostering a deeper intellectual and spiritual connection with the divine text. Delivered by expert and experienced IIUM instructors, the programme integrates theoretical instruction with guided practical application to ensure meaningful and sustainable learning outcomes.
Through its modular and learner-centred design, EPQLS appeals to individuals seeking structured Quranic language education without the constraints of a full-time academic programme.
The Executive Programme in Quranic Language Studies (EPQLS) is open to the public and welcomes learners from diverse educational backgrounds.
No prior formal qualification in Arabic is required for entry at the elementary level.
Prospective participants are required to sit for a placement test prior to commencement. This ensures appropriate level placement and allows qualified candidates to skip levels based on demonstrated proficiency.
Admission decisions are made to support effective learning progression and academic readiness.
Each level of the programme is carefully structured to balance academic rigour with participant flexibility.
Each level: 20 hours
Structure: 10 sessions × 2 hours per session
Total Programme Duration:
5 levels × 20 hours = 100 contact hours
The modular design allows participants to progress level by level according to their learning pace and availability.

Term 1: 14 February 2026 – 25 April 2026
Term 2: 6 June 2026 – 8 August 2026
Term 3: 12 September 2026 – 14 November 2026
Detailed class schedules will be announced prior to each term, subject to academic planning and enrolment numbers.
The EPQLS follows a modular, level-based structure designed to ensure gradual and coherent mastery of Quranic Arabic.
Programme Levels:
- Elementary Level – Part 1
- Elementary Level – Part 2 (Examination)
- Intermediate Level – Part 1
- Intermediate Level – Part 2 (Examination)
- Advanced Level – Part 1 (Examination)
Important Notes:
A placement test is compulsory prior to enrolment to determine the appropriate entry level.
For convocation eligibility, students are required to successfully complete at least the final three levels of the programme.
The programme adopts a transparent, per-level fee structure to provide flexibility and accessibility for learners.
Fee per level: RM450
Total (5 levels): RM450 × 5 = RM2,250
Important Notes:
Fees are calculated based on the number of levels undertaken by the participant.
Participants who qualify to skip levels through the placement test will only be charged for the levels attended.
Short Courses
IfLA’s short courses are standalone learning programmes, designed to offer targeted skill enhancement in specific language areas. These courses operate independently from our main academic programmes and do not lead to formal programme-level qualification or progression.
Each short course is structured to provide focused, practical, and flexible learning, suitable for individuals seeking personal development, enrichment, or specialised linguistic skills without committing to a long-term programme.
Arabic Calligraphy Art
The Arabic Calligraphy Art short course introduces students to the art and beauty of Arabic calligraphy (الخط العربي), combining theory, technique, and hands-on practice. Learners will explore Arabic calligraphy as a visual art form. The course covers the basics of Arabic calligraphy, and students will be guided step by step to write with confidence, precision, and aesthetic balance.
