Let’s Sea Camp made its return for the fourth time with even greater excitement and outreach! This year’s edition was extra special as it opened participation not only to the IIUM community but also to the general public, welcoming children from various backgrounds to explore and connect with the marine world. Held at INOCEM, the program brought together 35 enthusiastic young participants aged 7 to 12 for a full day of hands-on activities, fun learning modules, and environmental awareness-building experiences. Participants were grouped and guided by trained facilitators and coordinators throughout the day to ensure an interactive, educational, and memorable experience.

Module 1: Microplastic Sand-sational & Microplastic CSI
The first module immersed participants in the global issue of plastic pollution through two exciting activities — “Microplastic Sand-sational” and “Microplastic CSI.” Here, children were given sieves to search for hidden macro- and microplastics in trays of sand and had the opportunity to observe real microplastics under microscopes. Supported by engaging infographics and a fun quiz, the session successfully sparked curiosity and raised awareness among the young minds about the seriousness of plastic waste in our environment.

Module 2: Marine Ecosystem Exploration
The second module, “Marine Ecosystem Exploration,” offered a unique opportunity for participants to understand the richness of marine biodiversity. The journey began with an inspiring talk by “Professor Coral” and continued with a gallery walk featuring coral reef and mangrove ecosystems, explained in a child-friendly way. The highlight of the module was the touch pool session, where participants got to physically interact with live marine species such as sea cucumbers, crabs, and small shrimps — a truly unforgettable and sensory learning experience.

Module 3: Fintastic Anatomy Adventure & Program Wrap-Up
The third and final module, “Fintastic Anatomy Adventure,” introduced children to the inner workings of marine organisms. After a fun and informative talk by “Professor Fish,” participants watched live dissections of fish and shrimp, learning about their anatomy and biology up close. To conclude the program, participants completed a post-quiz, received certificates and prizes, and each child brought home a mini aquarium complete with a fish and decorative accessories — a symbol of their learning and commitment to caring for the ocean. Parents shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, praising the program for its educational value and hoping for more future editions. Let’s Sea Camp 4.0 proved to be not just a one-day event, but a meaningful platform to inspire the next generation of marine stewards.

A heartfelt appreciation is extended to all coordinators, lecturers, staff, and dedicated facilitators whose hard work, commitment, and teamwork played a vital role in the success of Let’s Sea Camp 4.0. This program would not have been possible without your collective effort, passion, and dedication. Most importantly, our deepest gratitude goes to all the supportive parents for trusting us and giving their children the opportunity to take part in this meaningful program. Your encouragement and belief in ocean education truly made this initiative impactful and memorable.
