10th September 2023 – Dr. Juliana Bt Mohamed was selected as the representative of the Malaysia delegation for the Seminar on Marine Spatial Planning and Blue Economic Development for Malaysia, organized by the Fujian Institute of Oceanography in Xiamen, China and fully sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China. This seminar that was held from 2nd to 22nd August 2023 is a significant event aimed at enhancing Malaysia’s marine management and sustainable economic growth. It had successfully brought together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss best practices in marine spatial planning, focusing on balancing ecological conservation with economic activities such as fisheries, tourism, and renewable energy.

The participants are able to gain insights into the advanced strategies for sustainable marine resource utilization and learn from China’s experiences in developing a robust blue economy. The seminar also fosters international cooperation, enabling Malaysia to adopt innovative approaches to marine spatial planning and blue economic development, ultimately contributing to the preservation of marine biodiversity and the prosperity of coastal communities.
